Six Senses Zighy Bay, A Luxury Resort Off-World

Six Senses Zighy Bay, A Luxury Resort Off-World

We didn’t experiment a luxury beach resort since many months and that was really too long. For this 2018 winter holidays I wanted something exceptional, sunny and “exotic” so I chose a safe bet: a Six Senses property, the Six Senses Zighy Bay in the Sultanate of Oman. And that was a fantastic choice! We past three incredible days there, concluding our Middle East trip in the best possible way.

Do you know the definition of a Wow factor? That’s something “extremely impressive”. Throughout my hotel reviews worldwide, I already experimented it many times: in Philippines, Maldives and Thailand, for instance. But that’s really the first time I had a Wow factor regarding each single aspect of a luxury place… I kindly ask you to trust me, Six Senses Zighy Bay is MA-GI-CAL!

Mountain road

It all started with the 2-hour private transfer from Dubai – in a luxurious GMC 4×4 booked by the resort – during which we crossed the desert to reach Dibba, the closest Omani city to the property. Then after a 10-min ride on a rough trail outside the official road map, we arrived at the Six Senses pre-entrance down the mountain… The magic continues: the car “climbed” the mountain, offering spectacular views over Zighy Bay and the resort from the top, and we finally arrived at Sablah (the Reception) 15 minutes later. An outstanding journey, and that was only the beginning.

Design & Facilities

We arrived around 12pm, our villa was not ready yet. Our GEM – Guest Experience Manager – Muhamad took the occasion to show us the resort and main points of interest. First, we visited the “collection” of buildings on the top: the reception, a library, Spice Market and Summer House restaurants, and the cozy Zighy Bar all around an outdoor heated pool. The overall design is purely arabic, authentic and definitely eco-friendly. Just stunning.

Then, apart the several paths leading to the 82 pool villas, we discovered other common areas on the right side of Six Senses Zighy Bay: a second outdoor pool, an open-air restaurant Shua Shack and the water activities center. On the complete opposite side, we found the Six Senses Spa with its range of body and facial treatments. We enjoyed a 60-min Balinese massage in a double treatment room there, it was so relaxing!

Of course, it’s impossible to miss that wonderful white sand beach with turquoise waters. This is simply Heaven. It’s long and it goes even beyond the resort borders, you can continue walking until the nearby village and local marina.

Accommodation

We stayed in the Pool Villa #69 on left side of the resort. Despite this category is the lowest at Six Senses Zighy Bay, I found it amazing – total space 200sqm – and absolutely perfect for our stay.

From the inside, the villa is made in the pure Omani tradition – stone walls and floor – and provides all five-star standards. I especially liked the large huge bathroom and its stone bathtub. Oh, and the bed is soooo comfortable!

From the outside, you have a heated plunge pool, an open-air sofa and two sun loungers. The overall is very well designed, the villa merges totally in its sand & mountain environment. One of the best demonstration of the resort’s eco-friendliness.

Need to travel around the resort? No worries, two bikes are available in front of each villa. The attention to details is maximal there, no doubt this is the Six Senses savoir-faire.

Dining

Thanks to our half-board package, we had the opportunity to try all dining places. Shua Shack on the beach is lovely to enjoy lunch with a sea view – they have pizzas al forno! – while Zighy Bar is also a very nice option for light meals.

On the other hand, Summer House proposes a fine-dining menu with both international and Arabian dishes. I enjoyed a delicious beef tournedos and a tasty salmon with almonds there.

On top of that, the residence offers all-day complimentary homemade ice-creams ; this is a Six Senses tradition we already experimented in Phuket and Vietnam.. Yummy!

Level of exigency

For sure there is plenty of staff in that place, whatever to handle guests’ requests or to maintain resort’s common areas. What is very appreciable is the fact they are invisible: housekeeping always cleaned our villa while we were at breakfast, gardeners were super discreet and even our GEM came to us proactively only for few occasions.

In other words, I felt like home. A luxury home that I didn’t want to leave.

Conclusion

Six Senses Zighy Bay is the best place for lovers, or anyone looking for a unique experience and an amazing scenery. We appreciated each single minutes there and for sure we won’t forget that stay. My ultimate recommendation? Book a villa on the beach.
